The future of our industry

The future of our industry

Registered Master Landscapers were pleased to see an extension to the Apprenticeship Boost Scheme which will now run until December 2023.

The future of our industry is our young people. We must support them by providing the opportunity for learning from experienced landscaping professionals through apprenticeship programmes. This will help our industry grow and ensure our future talent has the skills and experience needed to succeed. It also provides reassurance for employers to keep existing apprentices and take on new ones. This all helps with succession planning and filling the skills gap we currently face.

What is the Apprenticeship Boost?

The Apprenticeship Boost will provide a $230m injection into apprenticeships across the country. This investment will provide for 24,000 new apprentices, and 14,000 existing ones.

How it works?

Landscapers can apply for the Apprenticeship Boost if their apprentices are enrolled in an apprenticeship programme approved and funded by the Tertiary Education Commission or Managed Apprenticeship programme and have done less than 24 months of their training.

What is the funding?

First-year and second year apprentices will be supported with $500 per month. The payment is available through the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) to employers of apprentices in the first two years of their training. This is available for employers with existing and new apprentices.
